Letter from Dr. Kallish

I came to the United States in 1999 unaware of the connections and first-hand knowledge often required to achieve financial success in this country.  I had no credit, no savings, no degree, no social security number and no family network to rely on here. In the twenty years since then, I have come much closer to achieving the level of financial independence I once, only dreamed about as an immigrant.  I did this by opening several businesses, closely monitoring and managing my family’s credit and building wealth through real estate - one home purchase at a time.  Through these experiences, I also acquired a wealth of knowledge – knowledge which I wanted to share with the greater Habesha community.  “Habesha American” is where I plan to share that information each month.  In each issue of this magazine you can find advice and real-life tools on how to thrive more in the American economy, even during times of Covid.  We will spotlight various Habesha-owned businesses that are vital to the economies back home and the Habesha culture here in the United States.  And we will highlight opportunities – both financial and cultural - that local Eritreans and Ethiopians are often shut out of, thereby causing us to miss out on opportunities presented to most traditional Americans.
